Windows

*Find and put up storm windows. (Storm windows can reduce heating cost by as much as 15%)
*Open blinds or curtains during the day and close them during the night.
*Use Caulk, Weather stripping or Bubble Wrap
Bubble Wrap may not be the prettiest but it is cost effective and reusable:
Cut to window size, adhere with a film of water sprayed onto the window and press into place.
To remove just peel off, it leaves no mess.

Thermostat

*Keep at 68° during the day.
*Turn it down to 55° at night or when you are not home.
*Are you forgetful? Invest in a programmable thermostat.
Save up to 50% on your heating bill by lowing your thermostat.

Vents

*Move Furniture away from vents.
*Place Shallow Pans of water close to vents.
Moist air makes you feel warmer than dry air.

Rugs

*You can lose a lot of heat thru your hardwood floors.
Use area rugs to help trap heat.

Ceiling Fans

*Put your ceiling fan on reverse to pull cold air out of the room.

Light Candles

*Not only do candles look nice and cut down on electricity they also put off heat.

Doorways

*Block doorways of unused rooms by shutting the door or hanging a curtain in the doorway.

Clothes

*Bundle up! I know it seems like a no-brainer, but use a blanket, put on a sweater.
It’s all about being comfortable in your home.
The house doesn’t care if it’s a little chill, but to the same degree don’t freeze yourself out.
Make yourself comfortable.
